'We have the chance for a second life. Inside my head I carry the stories of what went before. Those stories are the threads which will tie me to my other life. I am still Shif, but from now on there will always be two parts of me.' I love the idea of stories as threads which tie the parts of us together. Though I've never had to deal with anything as traumatic as the things Shif faces, thinking of the different stages of my life as threads in the same storybook helps me make sense of the ways I've changed as my circumstances have shifted. Do you think Shif will be able to make sense of his old life and all he's been through as he adjusts to his new life? What do you think the message of 'Boy 87' is?
